KEEPERS! MODERN FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHY IN ONE MONTH

This online course will teach you the skills that will make you a confident photographer, capable of finding and documenting the moments that matter to you.

It doesn’t matter what camera you use (let’s face it, most of us use our phone cameras these days!).

What is modern family photography?

Luckily, things have moved on from the days when children were dressed up in matching clothes and dragged to an unfamiliar studio where they smiled awkwardly for the camera. Today, family photography has become more about documenting authentic moments and creating memories of real life. This is the type of photography that we’ll be focussing on in the course.

What you will learn

  • The different forms of family photography

  • The elements of a successful photograph

  • 14 creative composition techniques, from simple to more advanced

  • How to take control of exposure, working with natural light, indoors and outside

  • How to tell stories with your photographs, including catching the ‘right’ moment

  • Basic editing techniques to prepare your photographs for printing

How you will learn

  • A weekly package of videos and activities to watch and work on at a time that suits you

  • Activities to complete and share your thinking online on the course Facebook group

  • Weekly opportunities to ask questions about the week’s course material

  • Weekly upload deadlines to submit your photographs and receive teacher and peer feedback

  • An alumni Facebook group for on-going peer support

What people say about the course

“This course has been absolutely fantastic. I’ve really enjoyed it. I’ve learnt so much, I will go on to keep practicing the techniques to make a natural change to the way I take photos. Your tips on Facebook have been really helpful and it was also really inspiring to see other people’s photos for ideas and to push myself. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed this course, thank you so much!”

“I am loving the practice and challenges and very grateful for all the material, inspiration, and advice, it’s been amazing. I had never totally realised how you can capture all those memories and milestones this way ( if not more so!). This course has been just the ticket, just what I needed!”

Molly, November 2020

“What an experience. Jen is not only an amazing photographer, but she is also an inspiring teacher. Think Robin Williams in Dead Poet's Society meets Annie Leibovitz (if Annie Leibovitz was a documentary family photographer). I'd do this workshop again in a heartbeat.”

Inger, February 2020
